Management of waste luminaries, which represent hazardous waste due to its mercury content, is regulated by the Decree on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Management (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 107/2006).
The end user should not dispose of waste luminaries to the public service provider (municipal utility company) as mixed municipal waste but can dispose of them to the distributer upon the purchase of new ones (in the same amount as purchased), to the local public service provider (municipal utility company) as separately collected fractions or at the producers' collection facility.
In the event of violation of the regulation, end consumers will be fined as follows:
- 12,000 to 120,000 EUR for legal entities
- and 120 to 1,200 EUR for natural persons
